And
just like that, everything / changes. On
the very spot that Cin passed by within ten metres in his car not an hour
before, a maniac shot and killed a member of the CAF / Canadian Armed Forces
this morning, before reloading his 'pump shotgun', if the papers are to
believed, car-jacking a vehicle, driving down to the houses of Parliament a few
metres away down Sussex Drive, and then opening fire / again inside the
Parliament itself before being shot and killed some time - and let's hope that
it was immediately - later.
Slain
soldier was a member of the ceremonial guard unit this week, which walked
through its paces at the War Memorial on Sussex drive this morning as it does
every day, made up of the various branches' members, and accompanied by a
bagpipe-playing member, the group always makes quite an impression at 9:00 AM
of a weekday, and Cin has passed them by as the group walks through its paces,
and more / than once.
This
morning's fatality was the second service member killed in as many days,
yesterday's horror involved another maniac running over in his car two service
members near CFB / Canadian Forces Base St.Jean sur Richelieu, killing one of
them before driving off, crashing his car, then being shot and killed himself
by pursuing police after pulling a knife, 'just like a wop' Sean Connery's
sergeant says it better in de Palma's The Untouchables, and for similar
reasons, 'to bring a knife to / a gun fight'.
We are
now as a country unquestionably / at war, though with what and / or whom, it is
not clear. Perpetrators appear to be
native sons, though one had an exotic, legal name adjustment made recently,
which changes should evidently have raised more alarm bells than / they
did. Parliament to be fair had in fact
yesterday too raised this country's 'alert level' to 'medium', apparently for
the first time since 9 / 11 / 2001, though Cin has been unaware of such a
level, his own alert level permanently set as of late / at high, your senses
during the course of ®egime ze®o a fellow-sufferer wrote it better ‘like / an
animal.’
'Be
alert' the t-shirt / slogan says it better, 'the world needs / lerts', and so
this sometimes bucolic if not somnolent city will have to wake itself up,
'there will be no more frisbee tournaments' one of ©in’s ©ubicombs ©olleagues said
it better this after, 'on Parliament Hill', and our media too will have to wake
itself / up.
'Here
comes' Van Morrison and Them sing it better now, 'the night', things up on out
on up on out up in here will never be / the same, it's 'a day' Winston
Churchill said it better of a similarly notorious day on the other side of the
pond, 'that will live / in infamy'.
Though today's shooting is the 30th mu®der at least of the year in this
city up on out on up on out up here, the after-effects of a gunman breaching
the Parliament Buildings after killing a soldier just outside its perimeter
will not go away / ever. After knocking
on wood - often his own / noggin - countless times over the course of the last
decade and a half, since, well, since 9 / 11, for the fortune of not having had
a similar attack staged on this country's soil, our days of knocking on wood
are over, they have become / academic, a
day that will live / in cinfamy is all / we gots.
This
country's insulation from the ravages of religious hatred - 'we are all' a
colleague said it better this after, of ISIS and its' ilk's perception of the
West, 'infidels' - and world-wide conflagurations has come to a sudden end,
ISIS posted a picture of yesterday's aforementioned hit-and-run martyr on its
web-site after it happened, for fu©k's sakes.
Course 'we opened the floodgates' Cin said it better this after, of our
sudden outrage and feigned surprise at finding among our erstwhile
fellow-citizens all manner of hatreds and extremism, 'a long / time ago', and
the days and nights of the dodgy dude shambling up along the Parkway in full
view of the cindomium - on the parkway, matter of fact - not an hour ago
tonight, not to mention the black sedan that parked on the same Parkway not ten
minutes ago, turned off its lights, and has not yet disgorged its occupant(s),
without arousing suspicion, are / over.
'Just
because you're paranoid' someone said it better, 'that doesn't mean they're not
/ watching you,' the saint of tolerance forgive him, innit Electrified JC, Cin
just sent an on-line tip to the local authorities about the aforementioned
black sedan, his desire to call them up on the phone as suggested under any
cincumstances not exactly a burning one, if you've read any amount of this Take
This Thing Back to Baltimore me-moirs and ®IP, you'll know / why, 'some folks call it Hell', innit Slingblade,
'I call it / Hades.'
'And my
heart is still' Van Morrison sings it better now from his 'Brand New Day', 'and
I've got the will / and I don't really feel / so mean.' It was these lines that Cin posted on your
Facebook RIP, innit perfesser, and they will have to do / for today as well,
though he meant them more then / than now - Cin works with and among and for
the miltary now, and these murders need to be avenged - a good artist borrows,
Picasso (and / or Warhol ? though maybe that's the point - id.) said it better,
'a great artist / steals.'
Any
swinging dick who has paid any kind of attention and / or read anything over
the course of the last decade knows that this country is among the few in the
Western world which has not until today been subjected to the likes of these
recent attacks up on out on up on out up here - 'terror / and horror' Brando's
Colonel Kurtz says it better in Coppola's Apocalyse Now of two of the
most effective tools of his or any / trade - is a quixotic battle at best, and
misguided and misleading / at best, and no it wasn't a typo, self-propagating /
at worst. God help us all,
innit Electrified JC.
